Save money shopping online

by admin on January 29, 2010

Everyone wants to grab a bargain and save money on the latest electronic items. In this instalment of our money saving tips, we talk about finding the best deals online and how to avoid paying full price for that much wanted item.

When shopping online, always look for codes that entitle you to a discount. Most online stores recognise the fact that people are looking for a bargain. Quite often if you search for the company name and the words “discount” or “coupon” or “discount voucher” you can find what you are looking for.

Compare prices across different merchants. You can use a price comparison site to check this, or find a website that scours the market looking for the best deals for consumers. Alternatively, search for the best deal on offer by browsing a few online stores. Some merchants give something away free with certain items. For example, with electronic goods you can sometimes get a free extended warranty or a free bag to store your camera or laptop.

When you shop can also be important. Look out for bargains after Christmas when many shops will have extra stock to shift. Also, resist the urge to have the very latest version of a product. Manufacturers are constantly making improvements to their product designs and specifications, but sometimes the newer versions don’t always deliver a spectacular improvement over the previous model to justify the additional expense.

Some merchants offer great deals but make sure you are dealing with a reputable outfit. Search for the merchant and the word “reviews” to check out their trading history, but beware of any fake reviews where the reviewer has an interest in promoting the product (for example, they could be receiving commission). If in doubt, pick a merchant with a good reputation and history of customer service.
